The Seven Chakras
Within the subtle system described in Sahaja Yoga are seven principal energy centres, known as chakras. Each chakra has its own qualities and supports different aspects of our inner development. Through Self-Realisation and meditation, we can become more aware of these qualities and gradually establish greater balance and awareness within ourselves.

The Seven Chakras

Mooladhara
Mooladhara is the first chakra in the subtle system and provides the foundation for our inner development. In Sahaja Yoga, it is connected with qualities such as innocence, purity, wisdom, dignity and balance. These qualities are considered naturally present within us and become more expressed as Kundalini awakens.
As the Kundalini awakens, the qualities associated with Mooladhara can become more evident in one’s awareness. Sahaja Yoga describes this centre as supporting inner wisdom, balance, attention, dignity and a natural connection with nature
Location
The Mooladhara Chakra is situated in the pelvic region at the base of the spine, below the sacrum. In Sahaja Yoga, its vibrations are associated with the base of the palm.

Swadishthan
Swadisthan is the second chakra and is connected with creativity, pure attention and pure knowledge. Sahaja Yoga describes it as a source of inspiration and creative expression, while also relating it to the ability to maintain steady and focused attention. Its qualities support the movement from mental activity towards a more balanced and attentive state.
According to Sahaja Yoga, the Swadisthan supports creative activity and the ability to direct attention without unnecessary distraction. When its qualities are expressed, creativity and attention can work together with greater spontaneity and balance
Location
The Swadisthan Chakra is situated in the lower abdominal region as part of the subtle system. Sahaja Yoga also describes this centre in relation to the lower abdomen and the physical areas connected with it.The vibrations of your Swadisthan chakra can be felt in your thumbs on your both hands.
Qualities
Creativity, Pure attention, Pure knowledge, Inspiration, Appreciation of beauty, Intellectual perception, Concentration, Spontaneity/Action, Undistracted attention

Nabhi
Nabhi is the third chakra and is associated with peace, satisfaction, generosity and personal evolution. Sahaja Yoga connects this centre with the desire to progress, the ability to find contentment and the development of an inner sense of righteousness. It also supports a balanced approach to the different areas of life.
The Nabhi is described as the centre through which the desire for growth and higher development is expressed. Its qualities of contentment, peace and generosity help establish greater balance, while its connection with Dharma gives a sense of right conduct and inner guidance.
Location
Your Nabhi chakra is located within your spinal column. It can be found parallel to your navel. It is closely associated with your solar plexus. The vibrations of your Nabhi chakra can be felt in your middle fingers on your both hands.

Anahat
Anahata is the fourth chakra and is associated with the qualities of pure love, compassion, confidence and fearlessness. Sahaja Yoga describes the heart centre as the place where the qualities of the Spirit become expressed through unconditional love, security and a sense of responsibility towards others.
With the awakening of Kundalini, Sahaja Yoga describes the heart centre as becoming a source of pure love, confidence and emotional balance. It encourages a sense of responsibility and benevolent behaviour towards others, while helping awareness become established in the joy of the Spirit.
Location
The Anahata Chakra is located within the spinal column at approximately chest level, behind the sternum. Sahaja Yoga associates its vibrations with the little fingers of both hands.The Vibrations of the Anahat chakra may be felt in your little fingers on your both hands.

Vishuddhi
Vishuddhi is the fifth chakra and relates to communication, relationships, diplomacy and collective awareness. Sahaja Yoga describes this centre as helping a person move beyond an exclusively individual awareness and recognize a sense of connection with others. It is also associated with respectful and harmonious communication.
Sahaja Yoga associates a balanced Vishuddhi with a more peaceful way of relating to others. Through meditation, its qualities are described as supporting diplomacy, friendly communication, acceptance of challenges and an awareness of being part of the collective.
Location
The Vishuddhi Chakra is situated in the neck, towards the back of the spine, approximately at shoulder level. Its vibrations are associated with the index fingers of both hands.The vibrations of your Vishuddhi chakra can be felt in your index fingers on your both hands.

Positive relationships, Effective communication, Politeness, Diplomacy, Sense of community, Pleasant personality, Collective awareness, Detachment

Agnya
Agnya is the sixth chakra and is primarily associated with forgiveness and compassion. Sahaja Yoga describes forgiveness as the ability to release anger, hatred and resentment. This centre is also connected with humility and the movement towards mental silence, helping awareness progress towards the Sahasrara.
Forgiveness allows attention to move away from anger, resentment and excessive mental activity. As the Agnya develops through meditation and Self-Realization, qualities such as humility, compassion and mental silence become more established, preparing awareness for the Sahasrara.
Location
The Agnya Chakra is situated in the brain around the area where the optic nerve fibres meet, corresponding approximately to the centre of the forehead. Its vibrations are associated with the ring fingers of both hands.

Sahastrar
The Sahasrara is the seventh and highest chakra of the subtle system. The six chakras below it are connected with different areas of the brain and the central channel passes through them. As the Kundalini rises through these centres during meditation, it reaches the Sahasrara and settles in the limbic area of the brain. In Sahaja Yoga, this awakening is associated with spiritual enlightenment and the experience of Self-Realization.
Sahaja Yoga describes the awakening of Kundalini through the Sahasrara as bringing together the qualities of the subtle system. This is associated with a state beyond ordinary thoughts and concepts, together with a deeper experience of integration, spiritual awareness and connection with the Divine.
Location
The Sahasrara Chakra is located within the limbic region of the brain and is associated with the crown of the head. Sahaja Yoga describes its vibrations as being felt at the centre of the palm.
